Calories Burned Walking Calculator
Calculate calories burned while walking on treadmill or outdoors. Works with steps, distance, or time.
You can use this calculator to estimate calories burned while using a treadmill or walking outside (even up or downhill).
How to Use This Calculator
Enter your weight - This is the most important factor for calculating calories burned.
Select terrain slope - Choose flat (0%) or uphill/downhill for more accurate results.
Enter any one: steps, distance, or walking time. The calculator will estimate the others.
Optional: Add walking speed for more precise calorie calculations based on your pace.
Walking Calorie Burn Formula
Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Time (hours)
MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) represents the energy cost of physical activities. Walking has different MET values based on speed and terrain:
| Activity | MET Value |
|---|---|
| Slow walking (3 km/h) | 2.0 |
| Moderate walking (4.5 km/h) | 3.3 |
| Brisk walking (5.5 km/h) | 3.5 |
| Fast walking (6.5 km/h) | 5.0 |
| Walking uphill (10% grade) | 6.3 |
| Walking downhill (-10% grade) | 3.0 |
Calories Burned by Steps
Approximate calories burned for different step counts (70 kg person, moderate pace):
| Steps | Distance | Time | Calories |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 0.76 km | ~9 min | ~40 kcal |
| 2,500 | 1.9 km | ~23 min | ~100 kcal |
| 5,000 | 3.8 km | ~45 min | ~200 kcal |
| 7,500 | 5.7 km | ~68 min | ~300 kcal |
| 10,000 | 7.6 km | ~90 min | ~400 kcal |
| 15,000 | 11.4 km | ~135 min | ~600 kcal |
